Public Works Summer Student

About the Opportunity

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a Public Works Summer Student based in Lake Country, BC.

Reporting to the Public Works Manager, Summer students will be asked to complete a wide range of tasks in support of the Public Works team.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited:

  • assisting staff with basic roads and works maintenance operations;
  •  fill potholes, pick up debris and litter from roadsides, creeks and parking lots;
  • cut grass with a weed eater;
  • hand dig and back fill where necessary for storm sewer, catch basin and manhole hole repairs and assist in the placement of pipe, manholes and catch basins. 

Training will be provided before any staff is asked to complete a task or operate a piece of equipment.

 

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must be a student and returning to post-secondary studies in the fall of 2025. You must possess a Valid Driver’s License and steel toe boots are required. First aid ticket would be considered an asset. 

You must fulfill the Canada Summer Jobs Criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations. 

As our ideal candidate, you have excellent communication skills, time management skills and an willingness to learn.

About the Benefits

  • You will receive a competitive salary of $20.43 per hour (2025 rates) plus 17.4% in-lieu of all benefits

This position is 40 hours per week  from May 1 – August 31, 2025 (approximate dates).
