About the Opportunity
The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Equipment Operator based in Lake Country, BC.Reporting to the Public Works Construction Crew Leader, the Equipment Operator is part of the construction crew responsible for civil works construction on water, sanitary, storm sewer, and roads projects. They will regularly operate various District owned and rented machinery including but not limited to an excavator, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, snow removal equipment, compaction equipment, and shoulder and ditch maintenance equipment. The Equipment Operator is a highly adaptable individual with a broad civil construction skill set, capable of working collaboratively across utilities and public works operations in both scheduled construction projects and emergency response situations.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform civil construction work focused on water and sanitary sewer, including daily work around underground live utilities;
- Safely operate District vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g. dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, compactors);
- Coordinate trucking and the on-site management of materials;
- Conduct equipment operation, flagging, and customer notification;
- Respond to and direct public enquiries and report issues to the Crew Leader;
- Inspect and report vehicle and equipment maintenance needs; assist with system operations;
- Support snow removal, minor facility maintenance, on-call duty, and other assigned tasks.
More About You
To qualify for this role, you must have a grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent. Additionally, an Equipment Operator is required to have a minimum of 5 years work experience operating excavation machinery in a municipal setting. A valid British Columbia driver’s license is required with Class 3 preferred. Prior to an offer, you may have to complete a field level competency assessment.
