About the Opportunity

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Public Works Construction Operator II based in Lake Country, BC

 

Reporting to the Public Works Construction Crew Leader, the Public Works Construction Operator II is responsible for civil works construction on water, sanitary, storm sewer and roads projects. This position performs skilled construction and maintenance renewal work on District infrastructure, frequently utilizing heavy equipment and specialized tools. The Public Works Construction Operator II is a highly adaptable individual with a broad civil construction skill set, capable of working collaboratively across utilities and public works operations in both scheduled construction projects and emergency response situations.

 

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Involved in all aspects of civil construction projects, with emphasis on water and sanitary sewer works;
  • Operates District vehicles and equipment safely, including trucks, backhoes, compactors, and excavators.
  • Performs equipment operation, traffic control, and customer notification duties;
  • Responds to customer inquiries and reports issues to the Construction Crew Leader;
  • Monitors vehicle and equipment condition and reports maintenance needs;
  • Conducts snow removal operations as required;
  • Performs minor building construction, repairs, and maintenance;
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of water, sewer, and transportation systems;
  • Participates in on-call duties and emergency response;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a minimum of Grade 12 education. Additionally, a Public Works Construction Operator II is required to have a minimum of two years work experience in civil construction and a minimum of one year experience installing water and/or sanitary infrastructure.  A valid British Columbia Class 5 driver’s license is required with Class 3 preferred. Above all, we value a collaborative attitude, exceptional communication skills, and fostering positive working relationships.
