About the Opportunity
The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Student based in Lake Country, BC.
Reporting to the Manager of Current Planning and the Manager of Long Range Planning, the student will be asked to complete a wide range of tasks in support of the Planning Department. The planning student’s primary work will be the research, data analysis, and preparation of reports on a number of planning associated matters.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited:
• Provide support to the Planning Team on a variety of projects;
• Conduct research for long range plans (i.e. Official Community Plan, etc.), current development projects, and other topics associated with planning and community building;
• Assist in reviewing and making recommendations on land development applications such as amendments to neighborhood structure plans and the Zoning Bylaw, development permits and subdivision applications;
• Collect and compile data for current initiatives within the department;
• Assist in preparing reports to provide input in developing plans, policies and branch initiatives;
• Assist with public engagement;
• Provide logistical support for consultations;
More About You
To qualify for this role, you must have completed your first year of a diploma or degree program in a related discipline with plans to return in the fall of 2026. A valid Driver’s License and steel toe boots are required.
You must fulfill the Canada Summer Jobs Criteria:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
As our ideal candidate, you have excellent communication and customer service skills with excellent time management skills in order to meet tight deadlines. The position requires you to be self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment and on an independent basis. Your willingness to learn and adapt to a fast paced environment will be beneficial.

About the Benefits
- You will receive a competitive salary of $23.20 (2026 rates) per hour plus 17.4% in-lieu of all benefits.
- You may be eligible for a bursary of up to $1000 at the completion of the term.
